relocalisation du Centre National des Arts Plastiques (CNAP) et d’une partie des réserves du Mobilier National à Pantin

L’installation du CNAP à Pantin représente une série d’enjeux et d’opportunités pour l’institution, son fonctionnement, son accessibilité, le confort de ses équipes, mais aussi pour le territoire pantinois et plus largement du nord est parisien, un secteur en mutation auquel le CNAP va contribuer par son rayonnement et sa participation à la matrice des polarités publiques et institutionnelles.

Même si le CNAP n’est pas ouvert au public, et que son activité nécessite souvent une grande confidentialité, nous proposons de donner à ce nouveau lieu une forme de visibilité et de porosité organisée par rapport à la ville dans un contexte où l’art contemporain occupe déjà une place, notamment par la présence de la galerie Taddaeus Ropac située à quelques pas et celle du CNEAI centre national édition art image qui s’est récemment implanté dans les Magasins Généraux.

La nouvelle programmation du CNAP prévoit d’ailleurs l’ouverture au regard de certaines de ses salles : expositions en alternance avec les commissions, présentation des oeuvres, vitrine.

La conversion du bâtiment lui même est un défi par la nature même de son programme, unique en son genre. N’entrant dans aucune typologie prédéfinie, ce lieu est à la fois stockage et institution, culturel et scientifique. Il est tout autant précieux et artisanal par l’attention portée aux oeuvres que global et industriel par son échelle.

Le défi de sa reconversion réside dans l’équilibre à trouver entre l’intégrité de l’objet trouvé, longtemps cherché, et l’impact des transformations nécessaires.

The installation of CNAP in Pantin represents a series of challenges and opportunities for the institution, its function, its accessibility, the comfort of its staff. In addition, because of the character of the Pantinese territory and more broadly the northeast region of Paris, a sector in transformation, to which the CNAP will contribute through its influence and its participation in the matrix of public and institutional polarities.

Even if the CNAP is not open to the public, and its activity often requires great confidentiality, we propose to give this new place a form of visibility and organized porosity in relation to the city in a context where contemporary art already occupies a place. More particularly,  in by the presence of the Taddaeus Ropac gallery located in close proximity and that of the CNEAI (National Center of Art Publications and Images) which was recently relocated in the Magasins Généraux.

The CNAP's new programming also provides an opening to some of its rooms: exhibitions alternating with the commissions, presentation of artworks through its vitrines.

The conversion of the building itself is a challenge by the very nature of its program, unique in its kind. Not entering into any predefined typology, this place is both a storage space and a cultural and scientific institution. It is as precious and artisanal by the attention paid to the works, as it is global and industrial thanks to its scale.

The challenge of its reconversion lies in the balance to be found between the integrity of the found objects, long sought, and the impact of the necessary transformations.
